NOTICE OF RACE

 

Start 12:00 Noon Warning

Registration

Complete the Registration Form and return it with the entry fee to the Annisquam Yacht Club no later than Friday, September 10, 2010.

Entry Fee

$15.00 ($20.00 for non-U.S. Sailing members)

Race Management

The Annisquam Yacht Club Race Committee will assume race management responsibility.

Scoring Yachts will be handicapped in accordance with their 2010 PHRF rating. All registered yachts must have an official PHRF rating. Yachts will be presumed to be competing under their Racing Rating unless they have either registered as competing under their Cruising Rating, or notified the Annisquam Yacht Club Race Committee of their intention to compete under their Cruising Rating.  Said notification must be made prior to the Warning Signal.

Sailing Instructions

Yachts competing under their Cruising Rating may not fly a spinnaker or similar headsail, except where specified otherwise by the PHRF rules or sailing instructions.  Failure to comply with this restriction will result in disqualification.

 

All yachts (racing and cruising) will start at the same signal and compete for the same prizes. Prizes will be awarded to the first five finishers on corrected time.

Rules

The current Racing Rules of Sailing 2009-2012 as adopted by the US Sailing Association will govern this event, except where specified otherwise by the PHRF Rules or the Sailing Instructions.  Each participant is solely responsible for determining that their yacht is seaworthy for any and all conditions that might be encountered.

After-Race Activities

Prizes will be awarded at the Annisquam Yacht Club following the race.  Chowder and refreshments will be served in the clubhouse.  (In conformance with the Club liquor license, members and guests are prohibited from bringing beer, wine or liquor onto Club premises.) Contact the Annisquam Yacht Club in advance if you would like to reserve a mooring, which are in limited supply.

Magic Cup

This is the last race of the season qualifying yachts for the Magic Cup.  The trophy will be awarded at the End of Year Event on Sunday September 18, 2010 at Eastern Point Yacht Club to the boat with the best combined results (under the RinderleB scoring System) in the five Cape Ann Interclub Races (Cape Ann Challenge, Ipswich Chowder Race, Sandy Bay Ocean Race, Mayor’s Cup, and The Great Race*).

 

* a sixth un-named race may be added in 2010

Starting Sequence

Rule 26 of the Racing Rules of Sailing will govern the start.

For example, Class Flag (Code “E”) will be raised at the warning five minutes before start; Code Flag “P” will be raised at four minutes before the start; Code Flag “P” will be removed one minute prior to start and the Class Flag will be removed at the start.

Starting Mark

Vicinity of the Annisquam “AR” Bell.

Starting Line

The starting line will be between the Annisquam Yacht Club Race Committee boat displaying an orange flag and the starting mark.

 

Please check in with the Race Committee at the starting vicinity.

 

The Race Committee will broadcast any yachts OCS for an individual or a general recall after the start on Channel 67. Failure of such yachts to receive such notification shall not be grounds for protest or rerun.

Course

The course will be signaled by the Race Committee.

Portable Marks Used With Government Marks May be Designated as Follows:

    Y   Portable finishing mark

    G   Portable gibing mark

    S   Portable starting mark

    T   Portable leeward mark

    W   Portable windward mark

Finish

The finish line will be between the Annisquam Yacht Club Committee boat and the finishing mark.

 

 

Changes

As Provided under Rule 32 of the Racing Rules of Sailing, the Race Committee may shorten the course by finishing the race at any mark of the course. Notice of a shortened course shall be Code Flag “S” plus two sound signals. As provided under Rule 33 of the Racing Rules of Sailing, at any mark the Committee may signal a change of the position of the next mark or the finishing line by displaying Code Flag “C” with repetitive sounds.

Time Limit

Yachts must finish by 1700 hours. Yachts failing to finish by 1700 hours will be scored “Did Not Finish” (DNF).

Withdrawals

Yachts withdrawing from the race are to notify the Annisquam Yacht Race Committee on Channel 67.

VHF

Participants may monitor the Annisquam Yacht Club Race Committee on Channel 67.

Protests

Protests will be heard by the Annisquam Yacht Club Protest Committee. Protesting yachts must display a red flag as described in the Rules of Racing 2009-2012 and secure acknowledgement of same from the Race Committee upon finishing. Protests must be filed within 30 minutes of the last yacht’s finish in writing and must indicate yacht protested and rule under which protest is made.
